Information for Parents
We hope that the frequently asked questions listed below will answer any queries you may have about Lighthouse. Registration for children will open at the beginning of May.
To register your child you will need to complete the registration form in full. Only volunteers' children, or children under the care of a registered child minder who is a volunteer are guaranteed places at Lighthouse. After this, places will be allocated based on availability in each age group. Please be aware that some age groups fill up quicker than others and so, if you have several children in different age groups, we may not be able to offer a place to them all. We will email during the first week in July to confirm if your child has a place.
Lighthouse costs around £75 per child to run for the week however we do not make a charge to attend. All the helpers who make Lighthouse happen volunteer their time for free and the costs are covered by donations and grants from individuals and organisations. Please consider making a donation to enable us to continue running Lighthouse. If you are a tax payer and can gift aid your donation please email us for a gift aid form once you have made your donation.

FAQs
Q: What is Lighthouse?
A: A Christian holiday club which gets the summer holidays off to a great start.
Q: What goes on at Lighthouse?
A: At the start and finish of the day everyone comes together for worship, teaching, drama, games (and gunging!) In between children from Reception to Year 4 follow a daily programme of sessions including teaching, drama, games and craft. Children in Years 5 and 6 follow their own, less formally structured, programme. The whole week follows a theme of teaching based around bible stories.
Q: Where is Lighthouse?
A: Lighthouse Marlow runs on the playing field of Holy Trinity CE (A) School, Wethered Road, Marlow, SL7 3AG
Q: When does Lighthouse take place?
A: In 2018 Lighthouse will run from Monday 30th July to Friday 3rd August. The Lighthouse day starts for children at 10am when they can begin to come on site and ends at 3.30pm when they should be collected.
Q: When can I apply for a place at Lighthouse for my child(ren)?
A: Registration for children will open in early May and a link to the registration form will be posted on this website.
Q: Who is in charge of the children at Lighthouse?
A: Lighthouse is run entirely by volunteers. Children are organised in age groups from Reception to Year 6 and are further organised within those age groups into smaller groups, called Lighthouses. Each Lighthouse has a Lighthouse Keeper (leader) and Lamplighters (assistants). Specialist teams help organise the craft, drama, games and teaching sessions. We take up references and DBS checks for all helpers with child contact.
Q: What year group will my child be in?
A: We organise children according to school year groups. Your child will be placed in the group corresponding to the school year they are currently in from Reception to Year 6. If you ask in advance it may be possible for a child to join a younger age group to be with a friend or sibling.
Q: My child has special needs, can they attend Lighthouse?
A: Lighthouse Marlow recognises that every child is an individual and aims to accommodate all children whenever possible and this includes children with physical and/or other special needs who may require reasonable adjustments. However, it is important that you know that we do not have any specialist carers, designated special needs facilities or access to specialist equipment on site which might be essential for your child’s particular needs and well being. We are entirely staffed by volunteers and we cannot match the level of support provided for children with particular needs in school. To ensure that your child can gain the maximum access to our activities, it is essential that any children who currently require additional support at school, who are on the School Support Register or who have a Statement or EHCP are highlighted to us at the point of registration. Please ensure that you complete the relevant section of our registration form with sufficient detail to help us assess if Lighthouse Marlow would be able to provide the support your child would need to enjoy the week. We will look at each child’s needs on an individual basis and advise you as to whether Lighthouse Marlow would be a suitable environment for your child and if we can make reasonable adjustments to facilitate your child's participation. .
Q: How much does it cost to attend Lighthouse?
A: Running Lighthouse costs about £15 per child per day. We do not charge to attend, but we do rely on your donations to ensure that Lighthouse continues to run. Details of how to donate to Lighthouse are sent out with your tickets.
Q: What is your policy if my child becomes ill during Lighthouse week?
A: Lighthouse policy mirrors that of schools: Please only send your child to Lighthouse if you feel they would be well enough to attend school that day. However, once a child is on site the final decision rests with the Lighthouse Medical Team.
Q: I applied for two children to attend Lighthouse on the same day, but only one was accepted, why is this?
A: This is most likely because the children are in different age groups and different ages fill up at different speeds, so on any given day we may have spaces in one age group but not another.
Q: I only applied for my child to attend Lighthouse for 3 of the 5 days, but you have sent me tickets for all 5. Why is this?
A: Our system requires us to print tickets for the entire week for each child, so every child gets tickets for the entire week even if you have only booked for certain days. Please only attend on the days you booked as we will not have the capacity to look after your child on other days and they will be turned away.
Q: If my child has previously attended Lighthouse and is now in Year 7, can they be a helper?
A: Yes. Young helpers can apply to volunteer at Lighthouse if they are currently in Year 7 or above.
Q: My child no longer requires their place, can I give it to a friend's child?
A: No, at Lighthouse we operate an allocation process and hold a waiting list so if your child no longer needs their place please inform us by email and we will allocate the place to the next child on the waiting list. Sending another child in place of yours without informing us may lead to us having incorrect medical and contact information in case of an emergency.
Q: What policies do you have to keep my child safe at Lighthouse?
A; We have child protection, behaviour management, and fire policies. These are all circulated to volunteers and are available on request.
Q: Are places allocated on a 'first come, first served' basis?
Yes. All places at Lighthouse are at the discretion of the Chairman and Executive team and will be assessed according to capacity.
Children of volunteers helping at Lighthouse for the week are guaranteed a place and so some age groups may have children registered before General Registration opens.
